Luis Santoyo of the Windy City

Detective Luis Santoyo, of Cook's County Sheriff Department, grew up in Chicago. He has been drawing since he was a child. After Luis got on the job at the Cook's County Sheriff's Dept, he quickly became known for his artistic talent, do to the daily cartoons of his colleagues that he created. One of his sergeants suggested that he take up forensic art and he began his training with Lois Gibson at Northwestern University.

Luis' drawings have helped both his department and the Chicago PD bring in many investigative leads, including robbery and homicide jobs. In March of 2005, luis interviewed the witnesses in the homicide investigation of a federal judge's family members. The Hon Judge Lefkow came home to her Northside Chicago residence and found her Mother and husband shot to death. Luis completed composite drawings of the suspects, who used a .22 caliber pistol. This crime was believed to be an act of revenge connected to one of the judge's past cases. The killer committed suicide after a police officer stopped his vehicle for a
minor traffic violation (Couldn't of happened to a nicer guy!).

Luis is not only a talented visual artist, he is a very prolific musician, singer, and songwriter as well. His song "Perder Para Ganar" made Puerto Rico's top ten in Feb 2005.
